Lumpfish Collagen Production

An important step to scale up the extraction of collagen from lumpfish was made at Breid biotech laboratories in March 2024 and it was reported in Fiskifrettir, a local trade newspaper. The process developed included the pre-cleaning, acid extraction and ultrafiltration of collagen from approximately 200kg of lumpfish skin. This work was part of University of Akureyri and BioPol’s tasks in PROFIUS.
