8th PROFIUS project meeting
On February 1st the consortium met in an online project meeting to present and discuss the progress. This was the 8th consortium meeting, less than one year from the end of the project, closing at the end of September 2024. Important results were presented by different partners. Prof. Lisbeth Truelstrup Hansen (DTU) presented the results on preservation of lumpfish roe. Different preservation techniques were tested and preliminary results on the genetic diversity of yeast and bacteria after 50 days and one year of storage were shown. Dr. Gianmarco Cusimano presented the work that is being done in ABTG to improve the preservation of tuna side-stream in order to utilize it as alternative source of protein in aquafeeds. Prof. Turid Rustad, from NTNU, illustrated the techniques they are developing for efficient extraction of protein and lipids from the tuna side-stream collected in Malta and of gelatine from lumpfish. PROFIUS Icelandic partner, Judith Maria Scheja, from Biopol, also showed the results of their effort to optimize extraction methods for raw lumpfish.
The consortium also discussed the organization of an online webinar to disseminate the results of the project and the techniques developed during the last three years.
